Having been released in paid early access last September, Dreamlight Valley is now celebrating its one-year anniversary. To mark this milestone, Gameloft recently hosted a 25-minute digital showcase, shedding light on the game’s future and unveiling exciting upcoming features that resemble those found in Disney’s Animal Crossing-like life simulation game. Here’s a breakdown of everything that was announced during the showcase:
Online Multiplayer and Jack Skellington Arriving in December
While the showcase revealed a multitude of exciting features, the biggest news by far was the confirmation that Dreamlight Valley will be receiving online co-op as part of its free winter update on December 5. This new multiplayer mode, known as Valleyverse, will allow up to three players to hang out together in their valleys. Players will also be able to visit other valleys and exchange items. Additionally, players can check out what items are available for sale each day in other players’ versions of Scrooge McDuck’s store.
Gameloft has assured players that this is just the beginning, with plans to continuously update and expand the online multiplayer experience by introducing new features and options.
Alongside the online multiplayer update, Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas will join Dreamlight Valley on December 5, accompanied by a new winter-themed Star Path, offering snowy outfits inspired by beloved Disney characters.
Details on Dreamlight Valley’s First Paid Expansion
As previously announced, Dreamlight Valley will leave early access on December 5 and introduce its first paid expansion, titled A Rift In Time. During the showcase, Gameloft provided a comprehensive preview of what players can expect from this expansion, which will be priced at $30.
A Rift In Time will unveil a new story centered around the main villain, Jafar from Aladdin, spread across three acts. The first act will be released in December, with the remaining two acts scheduled for 2024. The expansion introduces new characters, including EVE from Wall-E, Gaston from Beauty and the Beast, and Rapunzel from Tangled in the first act. Two additional characters will be introduced in the later acts of 2024.
The expansion takes place in Eternity Isle, a new world comprising three distinct biomes: Ancient’s Landing, Glittering Dunes, and the Wild Tangle. Each biome features new plants, animals, and cooking ingredients, such as fantasy figs and cinnamon, allowing players to craft new recipes. Eternity Isle is of similar size to the original valley found in the main game. It offers a separate object count, granting players the freedom to decorate without space limitations. The new region also introduces Ancient Machines, enabling players to automate certain activities like watering plants and cooking meals. All expansion content, including new characters, will be available in the main game’s valley.
Gameloft’s Future Plans for Dreamlight Valley in 2024
In addition to the December update and paid expansion, Gameloft unveiled a roadmap featuring free updates for Dreamlight Valley in 2024. The first update will introduce Sulley and Mike from Monsters Inc., accompanied by a Monsters Inc.-themed realm. This will be followed by the addition of a new “Vibrant Villager” in spring, potentially featuring Daisy Duck. Another realm, possibly themed around Mulan, is set for release in spring. Finally, Gameloft plans to add Tiana from The Princess and the Frog, along with New Orleans-inspired recipes, in the summer. Each update will include new Star Paths, additional features, and improvements, demonstrating Gameloft’s commitment to continuously delivering free content throughout 2024.
Dreamlight Valley Coming to Apple Arcade
In a surprising announcement, Gameloft revealed that a version of Dreamlight Valley will be released on Apple devices on December 5. The Apple Arcade version will support crossplay with Xbox, Switch, and PC. However, cross-save functionality will not be available, preventing players from making progress on their village while playing on the go. This version will include all expansion content, as Apple Arcade prohibits paid microtransactions and in-app purchases. Unlike other versions of the game, it will not feature a premium shop or paid Star Paths.
Additionally, Gameloft announced that the Dreamlight Valley soundtrack is now available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music Unlimited, and Pandora.
All of these announcements aim to revive interest among players who may have felt disappointed when Gameloft abandoned plans to make the game free-to-play. With online multiplayer, new biomes, and an expanded roster of Disney characters, Dreamlight Valley hopes to re-engage players who may have stopped playing over the past year.
