The Nissan Hardbody, a popular pickup truck in the 1980s and 1990s, is making a comeback with a new off-road package for the current generation of the Frontier mid-size pickup truck. The teaser image released by the Japanese automaker hints at black accents, fender flares, tow hooks, and off-road tires. This aligns with the Project Hardbody concept truck showcased in 2022, which featured a suspension lift and sport bar with LED lights in the bed. It remains to be seen if these features will be incorporated in the new model, but it would be exciting to see the Hardbody positioned as a desert-themed truck alongside Nissan’s PRO-4X trim.
The 2022 model year update brought significant improvements to the current Nissan Frontier, including a modern interior and a 3.8-liter V6 engine paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. With 310 horsepower, it holds its own against competitors, although its torque of 281 pound-feet falls short compared to the latest turbocharged four-cylinder engines from Chevy, Ford, and Toyota.
We eagerly anticipate Nissan’s reveal on September 14. In the meantime, let’s analyze the teaser image and stay tuned for more updates. And yes, we can’t help but hope that the new Hardbody comes with the eye-catching retro wheels from the concept truck.
