About 95 percent of the US population is currently consuming drinking water from wells and community systems that contain unsafe levels of toxic contaminants, according to a recent study conducted by scientists at the University of New Mexico. The study identified six primary pollutants – arsenic, nitrates, uranium, lead, fracking fluids, and PFAS – that are associated with neurological and developmental issues. These contaminants were found in the drinking water that reaches the homes of approximately 320 million Americans. The researchers also noted that multiple contaminants can be present in a single water source, potentially leading to synergistic effects.
