Dimdim Pacres, the highly anticipated volleyball player, is finally making her professional debut in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) with the Galeries Highrisers. A photo capturing the press conference held at Galeries MANILA was posted on Saturday. This exciting news comes after a long journey and moments where Pacres even considered leaving the sport altogether.
During the team’s press conference at Okada, an emotional Pacres expressed her gratitude for finally getting the opportunity to play among the best volleyball players in the country. She had been working hard for the past two years to join the PVL, a professional league that started two years ago.
Although Pacres received offers from various companies, including Peak Form in 2021, none of them materialized. She faced obstacles and even encountered scams in her quest to return to the volleyball scene. These challenges led her to experience depression and try different jobs, such as working as a call center agent and starting a food business.
Pacres admitted that she went through a tough time, not knowing what to do and trying different jobs just to make ends meet. She sold street food like kwek-kwek (deep-fried quail eggs) and even had a refreshing shake business. However, she remains grateful for all the challenges she faced, as they taught her valuable lessons and helped her appreciate the small things in life.
At 26 years old, Pacres previously played in the PVL in 2018 with the now-defunct Fighting Warays team. She tried out for different teams but was unsuccessful. At one point, she contemplated giving up on her volleyball dream to focus on her job as a call center agent. She even considered shutting down her social media accounts to avoid seeing her friends training and playing volleyball while she felt stagnant.
Fortunately, coach Lerma Giron gave Pacres an opportunity by recruiting her to join the Galeries team. Pacres expressed her gratitude to Giron, as well as her college coach KungFu Reyes, for motivating her throughout her journey. She also thanked her fans for their unwavering support and patience during her absence from the PVL.
Pacres sees this season-ending All-Filipino Conference as a crucial test for her career. She wants to prove herself and determine whether she should continue playing volleyball in the future. She feels unsatisfied with her college performance and believes she still has more to offer. Pacres is determined to make the most of this opportunity and evaluate her long-term plans based on her performance in this conference.
Pacres will make her professional debut in Galeries’ first-ever PVL game against Petro Gazz at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Tuesday.
