DeSantis Directly Expresses His Opinion on Trump with Four Straightforward Words

Ron DeSantis has made waves with his recent strong denial that Donald Trump won the last election. In an interview with NBC News, the Florida governor bluntly stated, “Of course he lost.” This marks a departure from DeSantis’ usual tactic of avoiding direct answers on the matter, as noted by the AP. He is now becoming more assertive in his stance. During a recent event in Iowa, when asked about claims of a stolen election, DeSantis declared, “All those theories that were put out did not prove to be true,” according to Politico. The New York Times describes this shift as an indication that DeSantis, along with other Republican candidates, is seeking an opportunity to capitalize on Trump’s legal troubles.

In the NBC interview, DeSantis initially took a roundabout approach to the question. When asked by network correspondent Dasha Burns about whether Trump won, DeSantis replied, “Whoever puts their hand on the Bible on Jan. 20 every four years is the winner.” However, when pressed for a direct yes-or-no answer, DeSantis firmly stated, “No, of course he lost,” emphasizing that “Joe Biden’s the president.” In response, a Trump campaign spokesperson criticized DeSantis for being too supportive of Biden.

As Axios points out, DeSantis made it clear in the interview that he believes the 2020 election was flawed in several ways, citing the excessive use of mail-in ballots. He also blamed Trump for giving too much influence to Anthony Fauci in relation to the pandemic. DeSantis’s main message is for Republicans to focus on President Biden in the upcoming race. He believes that if they do so, they will emerge victorious. However, if the election becomes centered on January 6th, 2021, or any other controversy surrounding Trump, DeSantis warns that they will likely lose.
