The Candystripes, eager to advance in Europe for the first time since 2014, had the upper hand in a mostly forgettable first leg match of the Europa Conference League. Despite a lack of opportunities, Derry City made the most of their limited chances.
They began the game with a dominant possession, aiming to assert their presence. However, it was the home team that made the first threat. Winger Adrian Justinssen found Bartal Wardum, whose 20-yard shot was skillfully saved by Brian Maher, hitting the post in the process.
Derry finally created their first opportunity after 30 minutes of play. Michael Duffy cut in from the left and passed the ball to Mullan, whose shot was comfortably saved by Torshavn goalkeeper Barti Mørk.
