The American Robin, known as kwikweskas in Abenaki, is a beloved backyard bird in North America. Easily identified by their distinct calls, they are symbolic of both spring and fall. These charismatic songbirds roam in flocks, moving between food sources and roosting sites during the nonbreeding season.
This movement is not entirely understood, with some robins migrating long distances while others do not. For instance, robins encountered in Maine have been found in Quebec, around Chesapeake Bay, and in coastal Carolina. Despite this, their behavior is known to be innate, with young birds exhibiting restlessness at a young age.
