Decades-Old Kidnapping of Boy: FBI Offers $20,000 Reward for Assistance in Solving Case

Authorities are seeking the public’s assistance in solving the case of a Southland boy who was kidnapped in Mexico City 20 years ago. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), in collaboration with Mexican officials, has announced a reward of $20,000 for any information leading to the whereabouts of Joshua Keshaba Sierra Garcia, who disappeared on August 12, 2003. To aid in the search, an “age-generated photo” has been released, depicting what Garcia might look like today.

Joshua, now 21 years old, is a Hispanic male born in Los Angeles. He was visiting Mexico City when he was kidnapped and was last seen at around 11 a.m. on August 12, 2003. The FBI describes Joshua as having black hair, brown eyes, and being 3 feet tall, weighing between 25-28 pounds at the time of his disappearance. He was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt, blue shorts, and sandals, and he has pierced ears.

Donald Always, Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office, encourages individuals with any relevant information to contact the authorities and help solve this case. Despite extensive investigations conducted in both the United States and Mexico, the search for Joshua has persisted for two decades, and there remains hope of finding him and uncovering the truth of what happened.

“I’m optimistic that the reward offer, along with the updated photograph and innovative investigative techniques, will encourage someone to come forward with crucial information that will lead us to Joshua and provide closure for his family,” said Always.

At the time of his kidnapping, Joshua was under the care of his relatives who had traveled to Mexico City for his baptism. Tragically, his 14-year-old babysitter was murdered during the abduction. After a series of ransom calls, one kidnapper was arrested during a money drop, and they are currently serving a lengthy prison sentence in Mexico. However, Joshua remains missing.

The investigation is ongoing and being conducted by the FBI and Mexican law enforcement authorities. If you have any information regarding this case, please contact the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office at 310-477-6565. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through tips.fbi.gov.
