Broadcaster and host Connie Sison has recently experienced neck spasms and has decided to share her experience in order to help others who may be suffering from the same condition.
“Have you ever had neck spasms? It’s like the pain doesn’t want to leave me. It’s funny to think about, but it’s true. I’ve been dealing with this since late last year until now. Lord, I’ve reached my quota,” she shared in an Instagram post on June 6.
Despite the pain, Sison is grateful that she has been able to endure it through prayer. Additionally, her show, “Pinoy MD,” featured an episode discussing neck spasms, which also provided her with some helpful information.
“I also want to share what you need to know about neck spasms to help increase everyone’s knowledge,” she added.
Sison explained that neck spasms occur when the muscles in your neck tighten suddenly without your control. She compared the pain to that of a leg cramp, but transferred to the neck. Neck spasms can cause difficulty in moving your neck, head, and shoulders due to the contracting muscles.
She further mentioned that symptoms can last from a few minutes to several weeks, and that the pain sometimes persists even after the spasms have stopped. Treatment options include using cold compresses, therapy, and light stretches.
Sison also advised that being active, managing stress, sleeping with proper alignment of the head and body, and taking over-the-counter pain medications can help suppress neck spasms.

In one instance, Sison shared that she experienced neck spasms after overexerting her neck muscles during morning stretches. However, she emphasized that it can happen to anyone, especially those who spend long hours in front of electronic screens such as computers, cellphones, and tablets. This sedentary lifestyle increases the likelihood of neck strain, pain, stiffness, and spasms.
Sison hopes that no one else will have to experience the pain of neck spasms. /ra
