The family of a shooting victim in Jacksonville, Florida is struggling to find a way to break the devastating news to his young daughter.

Jerrald Gallion, age 29, was one of three individuals shot and killed at a Dollar General store in Jacksonville. The other victims were Angela Michelle Carr, 52, and Anolt Joseph “AJ” Laguerre Jr., 19.

Sabrina Rozier, a relative of Gallion, expressed the family’s uncertainty about how to inform his daughter in an interview with the Independent.

“I’m her grandmother and I don’t have the words to tell her,” stated Rozier during the emotional discussion.

Gallion was known as a devoted father who had planned to spend the weekend with his daughter. His family shared their grief during a Sunday evening vigil, as reported by USA Today.

Rozier mentioned how Gallion consistently spent time with his daughter and was supposed to have her on Saturday.

Gallion’s daughter was present at the vigil held on Sunday.

Rozier shared that she last spoke to her father around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday when she couldn’t sleep.

Authorities are treating the shooting as a hate crime, as the gunman, armed with an assault rifle with a swastika, targeted the Dollar General store in a predominantly Black neighborhood.

Before the attack, the gunman left racist writings and shouted racial slurs at shoppers. The gunman ultimately died by shooting himself following the rampage.
