Former lawyers representing Danny Masterson, the actor from “That ‘70’s Show” and convicted rapist, have been financially sanctioned by a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge on Wednesday. The judge found the ex-defense lawyers, Tom Mesereau and Sharon Appelbaum, leaked sensitive trial information to the Church of Scientology about the women accusing Masterson of rape. Masterson, a practicing Scientologist, was found guilty of rape by a Los Angeles jury last week. The three women who accused Masterson claimed for many years that the church stalked and harassed them since they defected from Scientology. The confidential discovery material from Masterson’s rape trial was sent to another Church of Scientology lawyer, Vicki Podberesky, revealing police reports from the victims and their personal information. During Masterson’s retrial, Masterson was found guilty of raping two women in his Los Angeles home in the 2000s. The convictions come after last year’s original trial on the same three counts ended in a mistrial when a jury deadlocked. Masterson has yet to be sentenced. His hearing is scheduled for August.
