Daniel Radcliffe and his girlfriend Erin Darke took their newborn baby to the SAG-AFTRA picket line in New York City on Friday to show their support.
The 33-year-old “Harry Potter” actor was seen cradling his 4-month-old son while Darke, 38, held a sign that read “SAG-AFTRA on Strike” on the picket line.
The couple joined thousands of actors and entertainers who went on strike in Hollywood and across the country with the Writers Guild of America (WGA) for the first time in over six decades.
Prior to the strike, Radcliffe spoke about his new role as a father.
“He’s very cute,” he told Extra in an interview. “We’ve moved past the screaming phase, and now he’s giving us little smiles and giggles. It’s awesome.”
“It’s been a crazy few months, as anyone who’s been through parenthood would attest. But it’s also the best thing that’s ever happened, so it’s great. I feel very lucky to have this time with him. It’s awesome,” Radcliffe said about fatherhood.
Radcliffe and Darke welcomed their first baby in April, just one month after it was announced that the “Miracle Workers” co-stars were starting a family.
The couple, known for their privacy and infrequent red carpet appearances, have been together since meeting on the set of “Kill Your Darlings” in 2012.
In a March 2022 interview with People, Radcliffe expressed his happiness with actress Erin Darke.
“I have a really nice life. I’ve been with my girlfriend for almost a decade,” he said.
Radcliffe is not the only famous face supporting the SAG strike. Other celebrities including Susan Sarandon, Brian Cox, and Jason Sudeikis have also shown their solidarity.
The SAG-AFTRA voted unanimously to go on strike after their contract expired and negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which represents streamers like Disney, Netflix, and Amazon, reached a deadlock.
The strike is the first for the 160,000 members of SAG-AFTRA in the film and television industry since 1980.
The joint strike by actors and screenwriters is the first in over six decades and may delay numerous upcoming projects, including sequels to “Avatar” and “Gladiator,” until a new contract is reached with studios and streaming services.
Both SAG-AFTRA and the WGA are seeking higher pay and residuals in the streaming era, as well as protection against the replacement of their work by artificial intelligence in the near future.
