Witnessing the gathering of some of the country’s esteemed beauty queens and senora models at a singular event held last month was truly a delightful experience. This gathering held special significance as it served as a prelude to the much anticipated fashion show by renowned designer Renee Salud at Dusit Thani Manila on October 25.
Criselda “Dang” Cecilio, who won the Bb. Pilipinas Universe crown in 1979, shared a memorable incident from her experience at the Miss Universe pageant held in Perth, Australia that same year. She recalled that after Miss Venezuela Maritza Sayalero was crowned, the stage collapsed under the weight of the enthusiastic well-wishers who rushed to congratulate her. Fortunately, Dang escaped unharmed while several other participants and media personnel fell about 2 meters due to the collapsing plywood stage.
Following her return to the Philippines, Dang ventured into a successful acting career, starring in numerous films such as “Zuma” (1985), “Anak in Zuma” (1987), and “Haw Haw de Karabaw” (1988). She also had the opportunity to work alongside Fernando Poe Jr. in films like “Kapag Buhay ang Inutang” (1983), “Ulo ng Gapo,” and “Roman Rapido” (1983).
A Journey of Blessings
Reflecting on her time as a beauty queen, Dang expressed gratitude for the opportunities it brought her. She shared, “Joining Bb. Pilipinas and representing the country opened countless doors for me. I had the chance to pursue a career in movies and television. What I consider to be a true blessing is that I was able to complete my studies, despite my father’s strictness.”
While Dang initially dabbled in painting, she now spends her time engrossed in Bible studies and embarking on frequent travel adventures with her husband. She emphasized the importance of taking care of oneself through regular exercise and indulging in activities like playing golf. Dang believes in being grateful for the gift of life and ensuring that the years ahead are filled with quality and fulfillment.
