Authorities have made an arrest in connection with a fatal crash on the Chino Valley (71) Freeway in Pomona. The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Mark Shoemate of Aliso Viejo, was allegedly driving under the influence at the time of the incident, which resulted in one death and four injuries.
The collision occurred when Shoemate’s vehicle struck a flatbed tow truck, causing the tow truck to cross over the center divider and collide with a minivan traveling in the southbound lanes. Tragically, a man inside the minivan was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, near Rio Rancho Road, to attend to the injured individuals and transport them to nearby hospitals.
Shoemate was taken into custody at the scene and is facing charges of felony drunken driving and vehicular manslaughter. The Pomona Police Department is urging anyone with information about the crash to contact them at 909-802-7741 or 909-620-2048.
