Court Documents Reveal Chained Captive Woman’s Brave Escape: Breaking Window, Screaming for Help Before Rescue

  • A woman who had been held captive in a Kentucky home was rescued by the police after she managed to break a window and call for help.
  • A 36-year-old man was arrested two days later in connection with the imprisonment.

A woman who was kept captive and restrained in a Kentucky home managed to escape by breaking a window and calling for help, as per a police report.

The Louisville Metro Police Department released body camera footage showing the frantic moments after the officers arrived at the house where the woman was trapped on August 16.

Concerned neighbors had reported hearing someone screaming for help, prompting the police to respond. The main door of the home was barricaded, so the officers had to use a ladder to reach the broken second-floor window. Upon entering, they discovered a distraught woman with a large chain around her neck, secured and bolted to the floor with a padlock and screws, as shown in the video.

The police used a hatchet to free the woman, who received medical attention afterwards. Records indicate that the Louisville Metro Police Department arrested a 36-year-old man two days later, charging him with kidnapping, assault, and harassment.

The suspect has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and it is currently unclear whether he has legal representation.

An arrest citation obtained by Insider reveals that an argument between the couple turned physical on August 14, with the man allegedly cutting off most of the woman’s hair using a machete. The report states that the woman was also subjected to physical abuse before managing to escape the home.

When she returned to collect her belongings on August 16, the suspect chained her up and threatened to kill her, according to the arrest report. The report further emphasizes that by leaving the victim helpless and confined, the suspect exhibited a severe disregard for human life and created a risk of serious harm or death.

The report adds that the victim was able to break open a window and call for help. The Louisville Metro Police Department hopes that the arrest brings some relief to the rescued woman.
