On Monday, a report emerged claiming that new criminal charges were filed against former President Donald Trump, further complicating his ongoing legal challenges.

Reuters’ headlines stated that Georgia had brought multiple charges against Trump, including conspiracy, false statements, forgery, and racketeering.

However, a spokesperson for Fulton County, Georgia, later refuted Reuters’ report, describing it as “inaccurate.” The spokesperson did not immediately clarify the specific inaccuracies in question when approached by CNBC.

In a subsequent article, Reuters reported that Georgia seemed to be on the verge of charging Trump, highlighting a two-page docket report that had initially appeared on the Fulton County court’s website before being deleted.

Later on Monday, the Fulton County Clerk released a statement referring to a falsified document circulating online, likely implicating the Reuters docket report.

Reuters shared a copy of the aforementioned docket report.

Reuters acquired and downloaded a document from the official Fulton County, Georgia court website, briefly displaying a list of potential felony charges against former President Donald Trump. The court then removed the document with no explanation, in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S. on August 14, 2023.

CNBC could not independently verify the authenticity of the docket report as representing the pending charges against Trump.

Nevertheless, the listed charges align with the focus of an ongoing investigation into Trump and his associates’ attempts to overturn President Joe Biden’s victory in Georgia during the 2020 presidential election.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis initiated this investigation in February 2021, shortly after it was revealed that Trump had urged Georgia’s secretary of state to manipulate the vote count. Willis specified from the beginning that she was looking into potential violations of state laws concerning election fraud, false statements to government entities, as well as conspiracy, racketeering, and any involvement in violence or threats associated with the 2020 election process.

Security measures have been significantly enhanced at the Fulton County courthouse in the past fortnight, with road closures and K-9 units monitoring the vicinity on Monday.

Update 4:33 PM: This story has been revised to include statements from Fulton County Court officials provided after the article’s publication.
