Couple Selling Their D15 Home to Escape Rainy Weather: “We’ve Had Enough!”

After enduring eight years of rainy Irish summers, Michael Heneghan and Farrah Buhaza have made the decision to sell their four-bedroom terrace in Castleknock. The couple, who are originally from the UK, have grown tired of the constant rain and are looking to move to a sunnier place. Buhaza, who grew up in Bahrain and is accustomed to sunny weather, explains that while they have enjoyed their time in Ireland, the weather has become a significant factor in their decision to move.

Heneghan and Buhaza are no strangers to relocation, having previously spent five years traveling the world before settling in Ireland in 2015. They have lived in South Korea, Australia, South America, and China, among other places. Each country offered a unique experience, but if they had to choose one to settle down in with a young family, it would be Australia due to its outdoor lifestyle and pleasant climate. Buhaza particularly loved Argentina for its stunning landscapes and diverse cuisine.

The couple’s decision to move to Ireland was influenced by their desire to pursue master’s degrees and Heneghan’s Irish heritage. They initially planned to stay for two years and purchased a new build in Ashbourne, Co Meath. However, as they started working from home, they realized they needed more space and decided to sell their current home in Castleknock.

Their current home, located at 52 Phoenix Park Road, offers ample space for two offices and a spare room for guests. The couple was drawn to the storage options, including a designated storage room and a utility room, which are rare in new builds. The open-plan kitchen/living area and proximity to schools and the Phoenix Park made it an ideal place to raise a family.

Although they haven’t made any structural changes to the house, they have invested in decor improvements. The sitting room features a neutral color scheme, herringbone laminate flooring, plantation blinds, and a wood-panel wall feature. The kitchen and living space are mostly white, with natural wood accents for a minimalist, industrial feel. The room has floor-to-ceiling glass windows that provide ample natural light, which the couple believes is essential in Ireland’s often gloomy weather.

Outside, they have created a patio area with an L-shaped barbecue table, a couch, and a dining set. The back garden is a sun trap and is perfect for hosting garden parties and barbecues in the summer.

On the second floor of the house, there is a single bedroom currently used as an office, a double bedroom, a bathroom, and a master bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe on the third floor. The house has provided them with a comfortable living space, job opportunities, and lasting friendships in Ireland. However, after three months of traveling in Europe, they stumbled upon a house in Estepona, Spain, and fell in love with it. The lure of sunshine and the flexibility of remote work made them consider relocating.

Heneghan and Buhaza believe in embracing new adventures and enjoying life to the fullest. They don’t want to have any regrets and are excited for this new chapter in Spain. Their beloved pet, Buddy, will be joining them on their sun-soaked journey.

If you’re interested in rain-tolerant living, the couple’s property is currently listed by Sherry FitzGerald with an asking price of €725,000.
