Renowned rock legend Alice Cooper, known for his iconic eye-liner and title as the “Godfather of Shock Rock,” found himself dropped by a cosmetics company after expressing his concerns about the rush to perform transgender surgeries on children and stating his belief that gender transitioning is a passing trend. Cooper, 75 years old and famous for hits like “School’s Out” and “Welcome to My Nightmare,” had recently signed a partnership deal with Vampyre Cosmetics, a brand specializing in spooky and gothic-themed makeup, lipsticks, palettes, and lashes. However, the company decided to sever ties with Cooper after he shared his opposition to irreversible surgeries and hormonal treatments for minors as part of gender affirming care, during an interview with Stereogum.
Cooper, whose real name is Vincent Damon Furnier and hails from Detroit, expressed his concerns, stating, “I acknowledge that there are legitimate cases of transgender individuals, but I also fear that there are many people who claim to be transgender simply because they want to fit into a trend.” He further explained, “What troubles me is when we introduce this confusion to a six-year-old child who has no understanding of their own identity. They just want to play, and we are confusing them by saying, ‘Yes, you’re a boy, but you can be a girl if you want to be.'” Cooper also emphasized that these ideas can be equally perplexing and challenging for teenagers who are still in the process of discovering their own identities. He criticized the notion that individuals can identify as anything they desire, even going as far as referencing identifying as a tree and stating, “It’s becoming so absurd, almost like a far-fetched concept from a Kurt Vonnegut novel.”
Cooper also expressed his disdain for the “woke” culture, questioning who exactly is making the rules and shaping societal norms. He pondered, “Is there a building in New York where people sit down every day and establish these new guidelines? Are we forbidden to say ‘mother’ now and instead instructed to say ‘birthing person’? Who is the authority creating these rules? I simply don’t grasp it. I am not rejecting progressive ideas, but rather questioning them from a logical standpoint.”
Vampyre Cosmetics swiftly responded to Cooper’s comments, announcing on Instagram that they would be terminating their collaboration with him. The company, which primarily operates in the New Orleans area with its products available in approximately 130 stores, emphasized their support for the LGBTQIA+ community and their belief in universal healthcare access. They also stated that all pre-order sales would be refunded.
Alice Cooper’s representative declined to comment on the matter, and The Post has reached out to Vampyre Cosmetics for further clarification. Details regarding the financial aspects of the now-short-lived partnership have not been disclosed publicly. Cooper recently performed alongside Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry in Manchester, England.
