A Republican lawmaker leading Congress’ response to Big Tech is advocating for the establishment of a commission to streamline the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in the United States. Rep. Ken Buck, R-Colo., along with Democratic Reps. Ted Lieu and Anna Eshoo, introduced the National AI Commission Act, which proposes a panel of 20 experts from various AI fields to advise the government on the opportunities and risks associated with AI.
Buck emphasized the need to carefully consider the bill and assemble the commission with the right individuals and ideas. He acknowledged that Congress has been slow in addressing the rapid advancement of AI, but believes that the commission will help facilitate discussions and decision-making.
