Concerned Kamala Harris Expresses Worry Over 2024 Election Voter Turnout

Vice President Kamala Harris expressed her concerns about voter turnout, particularly among Black people, leading up to the 2024 presidential election. In an interview with MSNBC host Rev. Al Sharpton, Harris emphasized the importance of turnout and acknowledged the difficulties that some individuals face when trying to vote, such as those with multiple jobs and childcare responsibilities. She also criticized the efforts and laws put forth by Republicans that aim to make voting more challenging, describing them as disrespectful considering the historical struggles for voting rights in the United States.

Following the 2020 election, Republicans have pushed for more restrictive voter requirements, although the intensity of these efforts has somewhat decreased this year. According to a June report by the Brennan Center for Justice, there have been at least 13 restrictive voting laws enacted, surpassing the number enacted in any year of the last decade except 2021.

Harris expressed her concerns about the need to remind people about the importance of voting and to counter the efforts of those who are making it more difficult.
