On Tuesday, August 8, the local non-profit organization Cats’ Meow Feline Fosters will be celebrating International Cat Day by launching a unique and creative fundraising campaign. Their main objective is to rehabilitate cats and kittens in Rowan County, ensuring they are ready for adoption. To support their noble cause, the organization has initiated a fundraising event called Cats’ Match Fever, where they will be collecting donations for the next two weeks. The exciting part is that all donations made during this period will be generously matched by various local businesses.
Georgie Ramey, a dedicated volunteer and organizer at Cats’ Meow, emphasized that the funds raised will greatly contribute to settling the organization’s outstanding medical bills. Ramey stated, “We are still in the process of paying off our veterinary and medical bills accumulated from last year. We had numerous medical cases that required urgent attention. Additionally, we need funds for purchasing food and supplies.”
Cats’ Meow strives to find foster homes for cats in and around Rowan County, and if needed, they coordinate with other non-profit rescues to find suitable placements. Ramey revealed that the demand for this kind of care is alarmingly high in the area.
Ramey said, “There is an overwhelming number of cats and kittens that urgently require our help. These animals may not be immediately adoptable due to various reasons such as nursing mothers, bottle-fed infants, or injured cats.”
The volunteer and organizer highlighted that it typically takes several months to nurse the cats back to health and prepare them for adoption. Ramey reiterated that the best way to contribute to reducing the cat population in Rowan County is to spay and neuter pets. The Cats’ Match Fever fundraiser will begin on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Giovanni’s in Morehead. A portion of all sales made during the event will be donated to support Cats’ Meow.
