Colorado Dentist, James Craig, Set to Stand Trial

In an unfortunate turn of events, a Colorado dentist named James Craig has been accused of poisoning his wife, Angela Craig, leading to her death. The investigation revealed that shortly after initiating an affair, James began searching online for information on whether arsenic could be detected in an autopsy and how to make murder appear as a heart attack. Meanwhile, Angela turned to Google in an attempt to understand her troubling symptoms, including vertigo, shaking, and cold lips, and sought doctors who could provide assistance.

During a court hearing, District Attorney John Kellner highlighted the evidence pointing towards James gradually poisoning his wife. While James’s defense argued that there was no direct proof linking him to the poisoning, and accused the lead detective of bias, Judge Shay Whitaker ruled that there was sufficient evidence to proceed with a trial. Particularly compelling was the fact that James had purchased poisons online just before Angela experienced her mysterious symptoms.

The testimony of Arapahoe County coroner Kelly Lear revealed that toxicology tests indicated Angela’s cause of death was cyanide and tetrahydrozoline poisoning, the latter being a substance found in over-the-counter eye drops. Angela, who was married to James for 23 years and had six children, tragically passed away on March 18 after being taken off life support during her third hospital visit.

Throughout the court proceedings, James sat alongside his three lawyers, surrounded by Angela’s grieving relatives and his own parents, who declined to comment. The case took a further twist as it was uncovered that James was involved with another woman, Karin Cain, who flew from Texas to visit him. Cain, an orthodontist, maintained that she had been pursuing a divorce from her husband of nearly 30 years when she met James at a dental conference. She emphasized that she was unaware of his marital status and rejected the term “mistress” to describe their relationship.

Although Cain denied any plans for a future together, suspicions grew that James may have killed his wife to be with her. Investigators believe James poisoned Angela by lacing one of her protein shakes with arsenic. When she survived, he urgently ordered potassium cyanide, claiming it was necessary for surgery. The package was discovered by an employee, leading to its disclosure and subsequent interception by authorities. Additionally, James was found to have ordered Oleandrin, a poisonous substance, though it was intercepted by investigators before reaching him.

Red flags were raised when Craig’s practice partner, Ryan Redfearn, alerted a nurse to James’s purchase of potassium cyanide, despite no professional requirement for it. Redfearn also revealed James’s financial difficulties and marital problems. Angela’s sister, Toni Kofoed, informed the police that James had drugged his wife with an unknown substance five years prior, claiming he planned to kill himself and did not want her to save him.

Unfortunately, the exact method through which Angela was exposed to tetrahydrozoline remains unclear, as testing is ongoing. Defense attorney Andrew Ho suggested that James had searched online for ways to end his life, citing previous suicide attempts. However, Angela’s brother, Mark Pray, stated that concealing the method of suicide was unheard of.
