Colonie DJ progresses on ‘America’s Got Talent’

Fernando Bustamante, a Colonie resident known as H.B. MONTE, impressed the judges on “America’s Got Talent” with his audition, which aired on August 1st. Bustamante, who is a DJ, songwriter, and entertainer, aimed to hype up the crowd and inspire others with his personal story.

During his audition, Bustamante almost missed his entrance because he was backstage talking with host Terry Crews. However, their instant connection made it worth the delay.

Bustamante’s performance featured an original DJ set with digital avatars of the judges and Crews. These avatars, created by designers from Bustamante’s company Stream Music Group, danced in sync with his music.

The audience loved Bustamante’s set and even got on their feet. Crews, who was seen dancing backstage, was joined by a topless avatar of Simon Cowell, surprising the real Cowell and the judges.

Cowell’s reaction was intense, causing nervousness among Bustamante’s family during a viewing party. However, Cowell eventually revealed that he not only liked the performance but loved it.

In person, Cowell’s vocal health issues prevented him from speaking, so Sofia Vergara served as a translator. The dramatic response from Cowell was likely added in later during editing.

All four judges gave Bustamante a “yes,” advancing him to the deliberation round where they will decide who moves on to compete for the $1 million prize and a show in Las Vegas. Although Bustamante’s chances are higher with unanimous approval, it is still not guaranteed. He will find out in two weeks.

You can watch his audition and the rest of episode nine on Peacock TV.
