While networks have continuously focused on investigating Donald Trump and attempting to ruin him, they seem fatigued when it comes to addressing conservative concerns about the Biden scandals.
During a segment on “CNN This Morning” with guest host Phil Mattingly, the cover of the New York Post was discussed. Mattingly, who resides in Washington, emphasized the prevalence of similar investigations during Trump’s presidency and inquired whether it is fair to draw parallels under the Biden administration. CNN reporter Sara Murray responded by saying that while it may not be an exact comparison, it is fair to question the progress of the Hunter Biden probe within the government. Elie Honig, a CNN legal analyst who is critical of Trump, expressed frustration with the Justice Department’s lack of action, stating, “This is preposterous. According to our reporting at CNN, this investigation has been pending since 2018, over five years.” The investigation centers around tax concerns and whether Hunter lied on a gun form. Honig added, “I mean, that’s a five-week investigation. And this has spanned both the Trump and Biden administrations. Someone needs to make a decision on this case. I don’t know what’s happening, but it’s unlike anything I’ve seen before.”
However, when it comes to the Biden scandals, CNN’s daily perspective seems to be “What Biden scandals?”
Curiosity led me to search for “Biden scandals” within CNN transcripts from the past month using Nexis. Surprisingly, there was only one result, which wasn’t a true result, but rather a compilation of sound bites featuring Trump on the show “Inside Politics with Abby Phillip.”
The first sound bite was from November 2, 2020, where Trump states, “We’ve been hit by fake, fake investigations, fake scandals, fake impeachments.” The second sound bite was from March 25, with Trump claiming, “The Biden regime’s weaponization of law enforcement against their political opponent is something straight out of Stalinist Russia.” As these clips played, the on-screen text discussed how Trump’s positions and rhetoric have become more extreme and detached from reality since 2020, according to The Washington Post.
So, if you were to search for “Biden” and “scandals” using a search engine, the only mentions you’d find are these sound bites, which CNN portrays as a departure from reality. Despite regularly comparing Trump to dictators like Stalin, Hitler, Mao, and Pol Pot, CNN shows no shame in this selective coverage.
Out of curiosity, I performed a second Nexis search for “Burisma” within CNN transcripts from the past month. There were only two results. On June 6, liberal Rep. Daniel Goldman (D-N.Y.) dismissed any significance related to Burisma. Then, on June 10, CNN weekend host Michael Smerconish echoed Honig’s sentiment, criticizing the media’s lack of interest in investigating potential financial connections between Hunter Biden and the President. Smerconish stated, “It’s inexcusable that such a straightforward case remains unresolved. Legacy media outlets demonstrate no desire to pursue questions surrounding possible financial entanglements between Hunter and the President.”
However, when it comes to the Biden scandals, CNN’s daily perspective seems to be “What Biden scandals?”
Smerconish further remarked, “House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer is currently examining the claim made by an FBI informant that the head of Burisma paid both Hunter and the then-Vice President $5 million each. The President unequivocally denies this.” It’s worth noting that Smerconish is the only person at CNN allowed to address the FBI informant’s claim, which suggests that “legacy media” outlets, including CNN, lack the appetite to explore these matters.
The media’s indifference highlights a sentiment expressed by Miranda Devine of the New York Post, who wrote, “Audacity is Joe Biden’s superpower. When faced with adversity, he simply laughs it off and challenges anyone to come after him.”
