Chelsea Piers Fitness plans expansion into Queens with new LIC tower location

In a bold move showcasing its ambitious growth, Chelsea Piers has secured a lease for 72,000 square feet of space in the upcoming apartment tower, 24-11 Jackson Ave, located in the Court Square neighborhood of Long Island City. This will mark the seventh location for Chelsea Piers Fitness in New York City and the surrounding tri-state area. The development is a collaborative effort between Tavros, Charney Companies, and Incoco Capital, with construction expected to commence soon and conclude in 2026.

As a prominent addition to the building, the facility will offer an array of comprehensive health and wellness amenities to residents and members. These include an outdoor pool, indoor basketball court, track group fitness studios, and athletic training spaces. JLL represented Chelsea Piers, with their retail managing director, Erin Grace, and Matt Ogle working on the deal. Grace expressed that the location and design of the project were a natural choice for the company.

Situated at the intersection of Jackson Avenue and 23rd Street, the 55-story tower will consist of approximately 600 apartments, along with 10,000 square feet of retail space. Colin Rankowitz, a partner at Tavros, enthusiastically stated, “As a born and raised New Yorker, I couldn’t be more excited to contribute to the expansion of Chelsea Piers’ iconic brand.” This expansion aligns with Chelsea Piers’ strategic rollout plan throughout the city.

This move follows Chelsea Piers’ rapid growth after its flagship location along the Hudson River, spanning 1 million square feet. The strategic rollout also includes a forthcoming 56,000 square-foot fitness club at SL Green’s One Madison skyscraper, set to open in 2024. Notably, Chelsea Piers Field House Brooklyn recently launched a 60,000 square-foot facility at TF Cornerstone’s 595 Dean St. in the Pacific Park complex.

Overall, Chelsea Piers continues to make significant strides in expanding its presence and offerings, catering to the growing demand for fitness and wellness experiences in the city.
