Chelsea, Everton and Blackburn progress; Forest and Sheffield Utd out: EFL Cup round-up

In a much-needed respite for Sean Dyche’s side, who had lost their first three Premier League matches without scoring a goal, a match against the 92nd-ranked team seemed like the perfect opportunity for them to turn things around.

However, Everton’s season began on a shaky note as they found themselves trailing against League Two’s bottom team. Joe Ironside’s header gave the underdogs a well-deserved lead.

Doncaster had hopes of a famous victory, but the Premier League side showed signs of life with a late comeback. Substitute Beto, who had recently joined from Udinese, scored shortly after coming on in the second half, and Danjuma sealed a 2-1 win.

Chelsea faced an initial setback but managed to come from behind and secure a 2-1 victory against fourth-tier AFC Wimbledon in the League Cup. The League Two visitors took the lead from a penalty, but Chelsea equalized before halftime with a penalty of their own. Substitute Enzo Fernandez scored the winning goal for Chelsea in the second half.

Lincoln City’s Lukas Jensen emerged as the hero in their Carabao Cup penalty shootout victory against Sheffield United. After a goalless 90 minutes, Jensen saved two spot-kicks to send Lincoln through to the next round.

Everton, led by Beto and Arnaut Danjuma, narrowly avoided an embarrassing defeat against Doncaster in the Carabao Cup. Falling behind early on, Everton fought back to secure a 2-1 victory.

Meanwhile, Burnley clinched a 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup, thanks to Zeki Amdouni’s last-minute goal. The Switzerland forward, who joined Burnley from Basel, made an immediate impact off the bench.

Blackburn dominated their Carabao Cup tie against Harrogate, securing an impressive 8-0 victory. Teenagers Thomas Bloxham and James Edmondson made their mark with goals on their senior debuts, while other Blackburn players also found the back of the net.
