ChatGPT, a language model developed by OpenAI, has some work to do before it can be considered funny. Recent tests attempted to assess the bot’s ability to craft humorous content, but the results were less than impressive, with more than 90% of its 1,008 “jokes” being the same 25 repeated lines. Even a request for 25 jokes from Business Insider produced no better than the sort of knee-slappers a third-grader might produce. Experts recruited by Vulture had mixed feedback, suggesting the AI may have potential but is still far from writing jokes comedians would perform on stage. While ChatGPT may be fun to talk to, it’s clear the model isn’t going to headline Madison Square Garden anytime soon!
