Approximately 15 million subscribers of Charter Spectrum experienced channel blackouts as Disney-owned networks, such as ESPN and ABC, disappeared from their screens. This disruption in service occurred due to ongoing negotiations for a new carriage deal between the two companies. Over 25 Disney channels were removed by the cable TV provider, leading to a blame game between the parties involved. The incident happened during important events like the college football season and the highly anticipated US Open match between Carlos Alcaraz and Lloyd Harris. The blackout not only affected viewers at home but also impacted the Billie Jean King Tennis Center during the US Open, where Spectrum provides services. As a result, ESPN broadcasts were halted in Arthur Ashe Stadium, the media workroom, and all around the grounds. Disney pulled ABC-owned stations, ESPN, and its affiliated channels, including Freeform, FX, and National Geographic. Both companies expressed their commitment to negotiating a fair agreement, with Spectrum criticizing Disney for demanding excessive increases and limiting customer choice, while Disney stated that it seeks rates and terms aligned with the market. Despite the disruption caused to Charter Spectrum customers, Disney emphasized its willingness to work towards a resolution and minimize customer inconvenience. With approximately 14.7 million pay-TV subscribers, Spectrum is the second largest cable TV provider in the country. This is not the first time Disney has faced a carriage dispute, as previous incidents have occurred in recent years.
