Chaos-filled Centenary Event Finally Ends Ferrari’s 58-Year Wait for Le Mans 24 Hours Victory

With a focus on minimizing risk, the team approached the race with a goal of learning and finishing strong. While a podium finish would have been a bonus, the driver did not expect to win. However, from the first lap, the car performed exceptionally well. The final hour was incredibly tense, and the driver felt extreme stress unlike anything they had experienced before. Being a part of this program and witnessing the enthusiastic crowd was truly special, and the driver expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to be involved. Having previously won twice with a GT, winning outright added a different level of excitement, and they were overjoyed to be part of it.

Toyota’s Grip on Le Mans Slips

Ferrari’s victory in the Centenary edition of the race prevented Toyota from equaling the six consecutive wins achieved by the Italian brand from 1960 to 1965. The No 7 car from Toyota was lost during Saturday night when it was hit from behind by two cars while slowing down for an accident ahead. Although the sister car sustained damage and engine issues, the team managed to repair it at the next stop. However, they struggled to keep up with the Ferrari and admitted to over-driving the car in an attempt to maintain pace. In the end, a driving error from one of the drivers relieved the pressure on the leading Ferrari, allowing them to take the victory.

The podium was completed by the English duo of Alex Lynn and Richard Westbrook, who shared a Cadillac with New Zealander Earl Bamber.
