‘Central Park Karen’ Receives Unfavorable Ruling from Appeals Court

A former American insurance portfolio manager, Amy Cooper, who was sacked from her job at Franklin Templeton after making a false police report against a Black bird-watcher in Central Park, NYC in 2020 lost her lawsuit against her old employer. She did not provide a valid argument that the firm fired her illegally on the base of her race or defamed her by calling her racist. Christian Cooper, the man in the May 2020 confrontation with Amy Cooper, had good news as she lost the appeal in Manhattan’s 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals. US District Judge Ronnie Abrams dismissed Cooper’s complaint last September, and the recent decision upheld it. The ruling stated that “We continue to believe the company responded appropriately,” but there was no evidence that race played a part in firing Cooper. Abrams rejected her claims of gender discrimination and defamation too. Franklin Templeton dismissed Cooper, who became known on social media as “Central Park Karen,” the day after the encounter.
