Centennial’s Former Star Athlete Scores 12 Points as Team USA Dominates Germany in FIBA Tournament

Londynn Jones, a former standout player at Centennial High School, showcased her exceptional skills in the game against Germany, leading the U.S. to a resounding 100-46 victory in the FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup group phase game held in Madrid. Jones, currently a sophomore guard at UCLA, made three impressive 3-point shots and contributed 12 points in just 16 minutes and 59 seconds off the bench at the Jorge Garbajosa Arena.

The U.S. team (2-0) demonstrated their dominance throughout the game, never trailing their opponents. They held a comfortable lead of 24-11 after the first quarter, expanded it to 45-29 by halftime, and further extended it to 68-35 after three quarters.

Joyce Edwards, a senior at Camden High School in Camden, South Carolina, delivered an outstanding performance off the bench, scoring a game-high 21 points in just 21 minutes and 55 seconds. She was among five Americans who achieved double figures in scoring.

Germany’s Frieda Buhner was the only player from her team to reach double figures, contributing 14 points. Buhner had previously played for the University of Florida but decided to sign with a professional team in Germany, ending her college eligibility. Hilke Feldrappe, who will be playing for the University of Missouri, managed to score four points for Germany (1-1).

It’s worth noting that all players participating in the tournament must have been born on or after January 1, 2004.

Based on recent successful performances in international tournaments, the U.S. holds the top spot in the FIBA girls rankings, while Germany is currently ranked 13th.

The U.S. team will conclude their Group B matches on Tuesday against Chinese Taipei. The game is scheduled to start at 9:15 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time and will be streamed live on YouTube.com/FIBA.

Chinese Taipei (0-2) suffered defeats against Germany, 67-59, on Saturday, and Mali, 83-68, on Sunday. The U.S. had previously defeated Mali with a score of 85-66. Chinese Taipei is currently ranked 28th.
