A viral TikTok video by Jeanine Amapola claims that Chipotle’s popularity has declined over the years, stating that it doesn’t live up to its previous standards.
In her video, Amapola, a lifestyle influencer, shared her recent visit to Chipotle, admitting that she rarely goes there anymore. She expressed disappointment in the decline of quality and the increase in prices. While she still finds the food decent, she now prefers the Mediterranean-American chain, Cava. Amapola also noted that Chipotle stores appear dirty and chaotic to her.
Despite Cava’s smaller number of locations compared to Chipotle, Amapola’s video resonated with many viewers. It has gained over 915,000 views and received comments from people who share her sentiments. Some commenters reminisced about Chipotle’s peak years in 2012.
In response to Amapola’s video, another TikTok creator, Ciara, stitched her own video expressing similar disappointment in Chipotle’s decline. She mentioned issues like withered lettuce, brown guacamole, and dirty stores, concluding that she can no longer eat there and finding it sad.
Other users also voiced their concerns, suggesting avoiding online orders due to potential portion shortages and mentioning frequent unavailability of toppings.
Insider reached out to Chipotle for comment but did not receive a response.
Despite the recent criticisms, Chipotle remains the ninth-largest restaurant chain in the US by sales and continues to expand into small towns, affecting the foot traffic of local staples like McDonald’s and Chick-fil-A, according to data from Pacer.ai.
