Cast of ‘Oppenheimer’ Departs Premiere as Nolan Affirms

  • Christopher Nolan has confirmed that the cast of “Oppenheimer” left the film’s premiere.
  • During the film’s red carpet event, the cast pledged to walk out if the SAG-AFTRA strike was called.
  • In a press conference on Thursday, SAG-AFTRA announced that their board had approved a strike.

The cast of “Oppenheimer” walked out of the film’s London premiere in support of the SAG-AFTRA actor’s strike, as confirmed by director Christopher Nolan, according to Deadline.

During the UK premiere, Nolan acknowledged the incredible cast, including Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr, Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Kenneth Branagh, Rami Malek, and many more. He mentioned that they were off to write picket signs in preparation for the imminent SAG strike, showing solidarity with the Writers Guild in their fight for fair wages for union members.

On Thursday, the SAG-AFTRA national board of directors unanimously approved a strike, as reported by The Los Angeles Times. This decision aligns with the ongoing writers’ strike that started on May 2. SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher announced the board’s decision during a press conference.

“Oppenheimer” is set to be released theatrically on July 21, coinciding with the highly anticipated “Barbie” movie directed by Greta Gerwig.

The cast of “Oppenheimer,” aware of the potential strike announcement, expressed their support for the strike. Matt Damon, one of the film’s stars, shared with Variety on the red carpet that the cast had a plan. He stated that once the strike was officially called, they would walk out in solidarity.
