Canyon North of MoVal Experiences Blaze Outbreak

A brush fire erupted on Friday in a canyon located north of Moreno Valley, resulting in 50 acres of land being scorched and posing a threat to nearby residential properties.

The fire was reported around 1 p.m. in the vicinity of Reche Canyon Road and High Country Drive, near the boundary between Riverside and San Bernardino counties, as stated by the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency promptly dispatched multiple engine and hand crews from the county, Idyllwild Fire Protection District, and Cal Fire-San Bernardino County. These responders encountered rapidly spreading flames in medium brush.

Reports from the scene indicated that at least one home and several outbuildings were in the fire’s path, which was expanding towards the southeast.

The area has a sparse population, consisting of single-family dwellings and mobile homes.

Efforts to contain the fire included the deployment of Cal Fire air tankers and water-dropping helicopters. However, as of 2 p.m., the fire’s forward spread had not been halted.

Due to the presence of a large number of public safety vehicles, California Highway Patrol officers were conducting traffic control in the affected area. There may have been a potential closure of Reche Canyon Road, although this has not been confirmed.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.
