A man from Yuba County has been sentenced by a Placer Superior Court judge for his involvement in a robbery in a retirement community in Lincoln last year. The man, identified as Joshua Daniel Allen King from Marysville, was sentenced to 17 years in prison, according to the Placer County District Attorney’s Office.
King was convicted of first-degree residential robbery and theft from an elderly adult. In addition, he faced enhancements for committing a violent crime against a victim over the age of 65, using a deadly weapon, and having a prior conviction for a serious or violent felony.
Prosecutor Shannon Quigley stated that King targeted the retirement community, going door-to-door until he found an elderly woman living alone, whom he exploited. This incident has caused fear and insecurity among the residents.
The robbery took place on the evening of October 29, 2022, when King entered the home of an 89-year-old woman under the guise of retrieving his child’s ball from her backyard. Once inside, he pulled out a knife and demanded money from the victim. He ultimately left with cash, checks, credit cards, a cellphone, and a driver’s license. The victim’s landline phone was also cut, cutting off her communication with the outside world. Fortunately, the woman was not physically harmed during the incident.
King attempted a similar scheme at another nearby home prior to the robbery but was denied entry by the residents. Detectives were able to identify King as the suspect after he used the victim’s credit card at a local business. He was subsequently arrested at his home in Marysville five days after the incident.
