SANTA CLARA — Brock Purdy’s first encounter with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was in his NFL debut and he delivered again this Sunday with a 27-14 victory over them at Levi’s Stadium.
Reflecting on his performance, Purdy, the 49ers’ starting quarterback, expressed the pressure he puts on himself and the need to continue playing better as he finished with 21 of 25 attempts, 333 yards, three touchdowns, and a perfect passer rating.
Despites his success, Purdy is focused on improvement. “There are still some plays that I wish I had back,” he remarked after the game. There is more work to be done.
His efficiency was evident as he completed five of six attempts to Brandon Aiyuk for 156 yards and a 76-yard touchdown. Aiyuk noted that Purdy hasn’t changed since their first encounter. “I’ve always got the same feeling from him, the same energy from him,” Aiyuk said. “Not as a player anyways.”
Christian McCaffrey credited Purdy for his incredible plays and unwavering composure. “He’s always been the same guy. A competitor, a great leader and a heck of a ball player,” McCaffrey said.
Blown away by Purdy’s perfect rating, McCaffrey added, “Dang, he had a perfect passer rating? That’s incredible. He’s a baller. He’s a good defense too. It doesn’t shock me, but it’s impressive. I’m happy for him.”
The 49ers face the Seattle Seahawks next, having just won a tough battle. They will savor the victory for a little while before focusing on the challenges ahead.
