Brock Purdy’s Impressive Touchdown Pass to Ronnie Bell Vaults 49ers Ahead of Giants in a Thrilling Game

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The San Francisco 49ers kicked off the game Thursday night with a couple of ups and downs. However, on their third possession, quarterback Brock Purdy connected with rookie receiver Ronnie Bell for their first touchdown of the game.

On third-and-5 at the Giants’ 9, Purdy read a blitz on the left side, threw a well-placed pass towards the sideline, and watched as Bell made a remarkable catch for the score. This was an important moment for Bell as it marked both his first NFL reception and touchdown. The 49ers selected him in the seventh round of the draft.

With starting receiver Brandon Aiyuk sidelined due to a shoulder injury, Bell stepped up and took on a larger role in the game.

Purdy had an impressive performance on third downs leading up to the Bell touchdown. He completed 6 of 7 passes for 101 yards and the touchdown. This marks Purdy’s highest passing yards on third downs in any NFL game, according to ESPN Stats & Information research.

Christian McCaffrey extended the 49ers’ lead with a four-yard rushing touchdown, making it a two-score game. The 49ers went into halftime with a 17-6 lead.
