Brock Purdy, de los 49ers, recibe autorización para practicar sin descanso

The Quarterback was on a Limited Regimen, in which he was required to have one day off

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — San Francisco 49ers quarterback, Brock Purdy, overcame another significant hurdle in his path to starting in the team’s season opener on September 10 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Brock Purdy will be able to participate in three consecutive practices without a day of rest, announced coach Kyle Shanahan during his teleconference on Monday. It is another significant step in Purdy’s recovery from offseason elbow surgery.

Purdy did not play in San Francisco’s loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in the first preseason game on Sunday, but Shanahan has said that he could play at some point in one of the remaining two preseason games. The Niners host the Denver Broncos on Saturday night.

These would be his first actions since tearing the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow in the January 29 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game.

After a slight delay until the swelling in his elbow subsided, Brock Purdy underwent a procedure to repair the tear on March 10. From there, Purdy has been closely monitored. He started a throwing program in late May, and his medical staff and the Niners authorized him to return to practice on July 25.

At that time, general manager John Lynch said Purdy could practice without limitations, but the second-year quarterback would still follow a plan that requires him to practice only two out of every three days. Shanahan said the hope was that Purdy could skip the required day off after two weeks. This week is just a few days past that benchmark.

Throughout camp, Brock Purdy has taken all the reps with the first-team offense on the days he has practiced. Since the league meetings in March, Lynch and Shanahan have insisted that Purdy will be the starter as long as he is healthy. Purdy appears to be still on track to do just that, noting last week that his arm feels good.

“In terms of my arm and everything, yeah, my arm feels really good,” Purdy replied. “I’m still looking for consecutive days and trying to get all the strength I can regain in the rehabilitation process, and I feel really confident.”

In other injury news for the Niners, tight end George Kittle (groin) is not expected to return this week, but Kyle Shanahan said the team hopes he will return next week. However, San Francisco expects defensive ends Drake Jackson and Robert Beal Jr., defensive tackle Kalia Davis, linebacker Dre Greenlaw, receiver Danny Gray, and running back Elijah Mitchell to return to practice this week.

Free safety George Odum (shoulder), linebacker Oren Burks (knee), and receiver Ray-Ray McCloud (wrist) are not expected to return in the preseason, although Shanahan commented that the hope is that Odum and Burks will be ready for Week 1 and McCloud has insisted that he should not be counted out either.

“I think Ray-Ray would probably be the one that won’t work out that way,” Shanahan acknowledged. “The other two we have more hope for than Ray-Ray, but as Ray-Ray keeps telling me: don’t count him out.”
