After a duration of only 14 months, Sam Asghari has officially filed for divorce from the renowned singer Britney Spears.
In Los Angeles Superior Court, Asghari, who is 29 years old, submitted the divorce papers on Wednesday, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. As a fitness model and actor, Asghari crossed paths with the now-41-year-old celebrity back in 2016 while featuring in her music video for “Slumber Party.”
Their relationship managed to endure while Spears fought a widely publicized battle to liberate herself from a conservatorship that had controlled her personal and financial affairs for over a decade.
Asghari showed immense support for her efforts publicly, and Spears even argued during the legal fight that one of her motivations to terminate the conservatorship was to pursue marriage and potentially expand her family.
After the conservatorship was ultimately lifted, the couple tied the knot in June 2022. However, they did not have any children together.
According to the divorce filing, the couple officially separated on July 28.
While Spears has yet to make a public statement, Asghari took to Instagram on Thursday afternoon to share a message: “After 6 years of love and commitment to each other, my wife and I have decided to end our journey together. We will cherish the love and respect we have for each other, and I sincerely wish her the best. Sometimes, (expletive) happens. It may seem unreasonable to ask for privacy, so I kindly request everyone, including the media, to approach this situation with kindness and thoughtfulness.”
Reports of the separation began circulating on Wednesday. According to TMZ, Asghari alleged infidelity by Spears during a heated argument. The website also mentioned that the couple experienced frequent conflicts in recent months.
TMZ additionally revealed that the pair had signed a prenuptial agreement to safeguard Spears’ assets. Asghari’s divorce papers indicate that he will be seeking spousal support from Spears.
This marriage marked Spears’ third union, preceded by a marriage of less than three days to her childhood friend Jason Alexander (not to be confused with the actor from “Seinfeld”) in 2004, and a nearly four-year marriage to Kevin Federline, with whom she shares two sons: Sean Preston, 17, and Jayden James, 16.
