Person of Interest Detained in Fatal Shooting of Los Angeles County Deputy
In connection with the fatal shooting of a Los Angeles County deputy near the Palmdale sheriff’s department, a person of interest has been detained, authorities announced on Monday. Sheriff Robert Luna will hold a news conference at 10:30 a.m. to provide more information on the detainee.
The victim, Ryan Clinkunbroomer, a third-generation deputy, was shot while sitting in his patrol car on Saturday evening. Despite efforts to save him, Clinkunbroomer passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital. The incident is believed to be a targeted ambush.
Law enforcement agencies are urging anyone with information related to the shooting to come forward. Committing $100,000 each, the Board of Supervisors and the city of Palmdale have offered rewards for information leading to the apprehension and conviction of the suspect.
The Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs has also contributed $50,000 to the reward fund. Public officials and law enforcement colleagues have expressed outrage and promised to dedicate all necessary resources to catch the perpetrator. They have called on the community for assistance in bringing justice to Deputy Clinkunbroomer.
As the investigation continues, the community is reminded to support law enforcement officers and to defend their efforts to keep the community safe.
Flags at the state Capitol and Capitol Annex Swing Space will be lowered to half-staff in honor of Deputy Clinkunbroomer. Gov. Gavin Newsom and Acting Gov. Eleni Kounalakis issued a joint statement expressing their condolences to his loved ones and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Furthermore, Rep. Mike Garcia has called for the passage of a bill that would make it a federal felony to kill a law enforcement officer. He has vowed to bring this bill to the House floor for a vote in an effort to deter violence against law enforcement.
During this period of mourning, the Palmdale sheriff’s station has canceled all community events scheduled for the week.
