Breaking News: LA County Gas Prices Reach Shocking 10-Month High

The price of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County has been steadily increasing, reaching its highest point since October 11. On Friday, the average price rose for the 23rd time in 25 days, going up by 3 cents to $6.315.

According to data from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service, the average price has increased by 91.8 cents in the past 25 days, including a rise of 12.3 cents just on Thursday. While there were minor drops in price on September 21 and last Friday, the overall trend has been consistently upward.

Compared to a week ago, the average price is now 27.8 cents higher. It is also 94.4 cents higher than a month ago and 5.4 cents higher than this time last year. However, it has dropped by 17.9 cents since reaching a record high of $6.494 on October 5.

Similarly, the average price of gasoline in Orange County has been on the rise. On the 26th day out of the past 28, the average price increased by 1.9 cents to reach $6.288, its highest amount since October 10. In total, the price has increased by 97.2 cents over the past 28 days, including a rise of 13.7 cents on Thursday.

The average price rose for 19 consecutive days, with minor drops on September 21 and last Friday, before resuming its upward trend on Saturday. Compared to a week ago, the price is now 30.1 cents higher. It is also 97.2 cents higher than a month ago and 3.7 cents higher than this time last year. However, it has dropped by 17.1 cents since reaching a record high of $6.459 on October 5.

Doug Shupe, the corporate communications manager at the Automobile Club of Southern California, explained the reasons behind the price increases. He mentioned higher oil prices, refinery maintenance impacting gasoline production, and the switch to green fuel production as factors contributing to reduced capacity in California’s gasoline production.

On the national level, the average price of gasoline has seen some fluctuations. It dropped for the ninth time in 11 days, decreasing by three-tenths of a cent to $3.832. Over the past 11 days, it has dropped by 4.9 cents.

Compared to a week ago, the national average price is now 2.7 cents lower. However, it is still nine-tenths of a cent higher than a month ago and 5 cents higher than this time last year. Since reaching a record high of $5.016 on June 14, 2022, it has dropped by $1.184.
