Breaking News: HPD Captures and Detains Two Suspects Involved in Tragic Kakaako Shooting

On October 29th, a tragic incident occurred in Kakaako, resulting in the death of a 39-year-old man. The Honolulu police have swiftly made two arrests in connection with the fatal shooting.

Authorities apprehended a 26-year-old man on Saturday, suspecting him of second-degree murder and firearms offenses. Additionally, a 19-year-old man was also arrested on charges of second-degree attempted murder and firearm offenses.

Based on a report from the Honolulu Police Department (HPD), the confrontation between the suspects and the victim escalated from a verbal argument into a physical fight. Allegedly, the 26-year-old suspect fired multiple shots at the victim, causing his demise.

During the altercation, the older suspect even aimed the firearm at the victim’s friend, but fortunately, the gun failed to discharge. Subsequently, the younger suspect attempted to use the weapon against the friend, yet it once again malfunctioned. After this turn of events, the suspects fled the scene in a black truck.

The police have positively identified the suspects and made the necessary arrests on Saturday. Following their investigation, the HPD will hand over the case to the city’s Department of the Prosecuting Attorney for further legal proceedings.

According to law enforcement, at approximately 11:13 p.m. on Friday, officers and Honolulu Emergency Services responded to a distress call regarding a gunshot victim. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived at 100-199 Ohe St., near Kakaako Waterfront Park, to provide advanced life support to the injured party.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, the victim’s condition remained critical, ultimately leading to his untimely demise at 11:41 p.m., while being attended to at a trauma hospital.

HPD homicide Lieutenant Deena Thoemmes stated that their preliminary investigation suggests a prior relationship between the suspect and victim.
