Breaking News: Eagles Release Defensive Back, Making Room on 53-Man Roster

Eagles waive defensive back to open up spot on 53-man roster originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia

The Eagles made a roster move on Tuesday, clearing up space by waiving defensive back Josiah Scott, leaving them with 52 players on their current 53-man roster.

At the same time, linebacker Shaquille Leonard, a former All-Pro player, was reportedly on his way to visit the Eagles after leaving his visit to Dallas without a contract. The Eagles are looking to bolster their linebacker position and hope Leonard will be a valuable addition to the team.

Despite his previous successes, Leonard dropped in the pecking order and was released by the Colts last week, yet remains an attractive prospect for the Eagles.

The Eagles’ linebacker corps have suffered from injuries and signings in recent weeks, leaving the team in need of reinforcements. They have also elevated rookie linebacker Ben VanSumeren from the practice squad multiple times already this year.

As for the vacant roster spot, there is speculation that it could go to either a three-time All-Pro player or an undrafted rookie out of Michigan State. Another option could be safety Justin Evans, whose practice window was opened several weeks ago but has not participated in practice recently.

In the meantime, Josiah Scott, signed by the Eagles just a few weeks ago, hasn’t seen any playing time since his debut in late October.
