Breaking News: Crystal Rogers’ Boyfriend Detained in Mysterious Disappearance Case

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — The former boyfriend of a central Kentucky woman who disappeared more than eight years ago has been arrested on charges stemming from the investigation, as announced by the FBI and Kentucky State Police in a statement on Wednesday.

Brooks Houck was apprehended without incident in relation to the Crystal Rogers case, as stated in the release. The specific details outlined in the indictment have been kept confidential and will be disclosed during Houck’s arraignment in early October at the Nelson County Circuit Court.

Houck faces charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence, as reported by the Courier Journal, citing court documents. His bail has been set at $10 million cash.

Houck, who was Rogers’ boyfriend at the time of her disappearance and the father of one of her children, claimed that he last saw her alive during a visit to his family’s farm on the night before she went missing. Rogers was reported missing in Nelson County in early July 2015. Her abandoned car, with a flat tire, was discovered along the Bluegrass Parkway, with her keys, phone, and purse still inside, according to authorities.

Houck, who became a suspect early in the investigation, has consistently denied any involvement in Rogers’ disappearance.

In 2020, the FBI field office in Louisville had declared their lead role in the investigation, as highlighted by the news.

The statement released on Wednesday asserted the FBI’s dedication to holding accountable those responsible for Crystal Rogers’ disappearance. It stated, “Today, we take the first step in making good on that promise.”

Another individual was previously apprehended this month in connection with the case, according to news outlets.

Joseph L. Lawson, 32, has pleaded not guilty to charges of criminal conspiracy to commit murder and tampering with physical evidence related to Crystal Rogers’ demise.

Although the indictment did not explicitly mention Rogers, Lawson’s attorney, Kevin Coleman, acknowledged that his client’s case is linked to the investigation into her disappearance. Coleman declined to provide further comments.
