Suella Braverman accuses Sir Keir Starmer of turning the UK into a “dumping ground” for EU migrants while criticizing his plan to solve the migrant Channel crossings crisis.
Today, Sir Keir revealed his strategy to address the issue, which includes considering an EU-wide returns agreement.
Under this proposal, the UK would accept a portion of asylum seekers reaching Europe while the bloc would take back migrants who have entered Britain illegally by crossing the Channel.
The Home Secretary, Ms Braverman, expressed her thoughts on Twitter: “Finally, we have Sir Keir Starmer’s migration plan. He wants Brussels to decide who can come to the UK.
“He agrees to make Britain the destination for the millions of illegal migrants that Europe rejects. And none of this will put an end to the boat crossings.”
In response, the Labour leader emphasized his focus on preventing the crossings altogether by targeting smugglers.
During an interview with ITV, he stated, “The question of whether people can be returned only arises if people continue to cross the Channel, and what I aim to do is halt the trade… from the start.”
