Boogie Basham Joins Giants in Trade, Oshane Ximines Released

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The New York Giants made a significant move on Tuesday, acquiring defensive end Boogie Basham in a trade with the Buffalo Bills.

As part of the deal, the Bills also sent a 2025 seventh-round pick to the Giants in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick.

In addition, the Giants have activated wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson from the physically unable to perform list. Robinson, a second-round pick, has recovered from a torn ACL in his right knee last November. He will now have two weeks of practice to prepare for the upcoming season.

With these new additions to the roster, the Giants made some cuts on Tuesday. They released 2019 third-round pick Oshane Ximines, who had 6.5 career sacks with the team. They also let go of wide receivers Cole Beasley and Jamison Crowder.

Boogie Basham was a second-round pick by the Bills in the 2021 NFL draft. The Giants’ current general manager, Joe Schoen, was part of the Buffalo front office when Basham was selected. Furthermore, the Giants’ coach, Brian Daboll, was the Bills’ offensive coordinator at the time and closely observed Basham during practices.

Basham, aged 25, has recorded 20 total tackles and 4.5 sacks in his two seasons with the Bills. His addition provides depth to the Giants’ outside linebacker group, which lacked options behind starters Kayvon Thibodeaux and Azeez Ojulari.

Last week, the Giants also acquired Isaiah Simmons, a versatile former first-round pick from the Arizona Cardinals. While primarily joining the Giants’ inside linebackers group, Simmons has occasionally played at outside linebacker earlier in his career.

This trade involving Basham marks the second consecutive year that the Bills have sent away a second-round pick still on their rookie contract just before the start of the season. In 2022, they traded offensive tackle Cody Ford, a second-round selection in 2019, to the Arizona Cardinals.

Basham displayed promising moments during camp but ultimately failed to meet expectations. The Giants’ decision to move on signifies their belief in AJ Epenesa, a second-round pick from 2020 who is entering the final year of his rookie contract.

Meanwhile, Von Miller, who was obtained by the Giants in 2022, will begin the season on the physically unable to perform list. Sources have informed ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Jeremy Fowler that Miller’s recovery from the ACL injury he suffered last season will keep him out for at least the first four games.

ESPN’s Alaina Getzenberg contributed to this report.
