Blur vocalist suggests the rise of AI-driven music industry will require improved substances

Damon Albarn, the frontman of the band Blur, recently expressed his skepticism about the future of music being dominated by artificial intelligence (AI). In an interview with The Sun, Albarn called the idea “absurd” and criticized those who rely on AI filters to create songs and share them online. He humorously suggested that if AI is indeed the future of music, then musicians will need better drugs to cope with it.

Albarn’s comments reflect a broader concern among artists in various genres, including country music. Riley Green, a musician, shared his doubts about AI’s ability to create songs that evoke genuine emotions. Tracy Lawrence, another singer, expressed unease about the unregulated nature of AI in the music industry and called for more regulations.

John Rich, one half of the country duo Big & Rich, emphasized the uniqueness and irreplaceability of great songwriters. He questioned whether AI could ever replicate the emotional depth and impact of iconic songs like “He Stopped Loving Her Today.” Rich also commented on the current state of country music, suggesting that AI might only contribute to the redundancy already present in the genre.

On the other hand, Canadian singer Grimes took a more open-minded stance towards AI in music. She expressed her willingness to have her voice featured on AI-generated tracks as long as she receives proper compensation in the form of royalties for successful songs.

While some artists remain skeptical, others are willing to explore the possibilities offered by AI. It remains to be seen how this technology will continue to shape the music industry.
