Converge FiberXers’ First Round Pick BJ Andrade Excited to Play for Coach Aldin Ayo in PBA Draft 2023
MANILA, Philippines—BJ Andrade, the first-round pick of Converge FiberXers in the 2023 PBA Draft, is looking forward to playing under the mentorship of Coach Aldin Ayo. Andrade, who previously played for Ateneo under Coach Tab Baldwin, expressed his excitement to learn from one of the best coaches in the Philippines.
“I’m thrilled to be playing for Coach Aldin as he gave us a hard time when we faced him in the UAAP. He’s truly one of the best coaches here in the Philippines, and I hope he’ll teach me a lot,” said Andrade.
Andrade, along with fellow Ateneo alumni Adrian Wong and Mike Nieto, will be joining Converge. He will also have the guidance of his uncle Danny Ildefonso, who is part of the coaching staff, which takes off the pressure from Andrade.
Despite being chosen early in the draft amidst other notable players, Andrade expressed his gratitude for the opportunity despite his injury. He suffered a torn ACL during a Pilipinas Super League game last February.
In his final year under Coach Baldwin, Andrade showcased his skills with an average of 9.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.
