President Joe Biden’s upcoming visit to Rep. Lauren Boebert’s district in Colorado is aimed at highlighting her role as the embodiment of Republican opposition to his policies. Biden’s trip coincides with his struggles with low approval ratings and ongoing preparation for a possible 2024 rematch against former President Donald Trump, which has Democrats seeking opportunities to capitalize on GOP opposition.
The visit will include a tour of CS Wind, the world’s largest facility for wind tower manufacturing, located in Pueblo. Originally scheduled for last month, the trip was postponed as Biden focused on the Israel-Hamas conflict.
CS Wind is undergoing a $200 million expansion, expected to create 850 jobs by 2026 with assistance from the Inflation Reduction Act. The Act has brought hundreds of billions of dollars in financial incentives, and according to a new analysis from the Treasury Department, clean energy investments are benefiting communities with below-average wages and above-average child poverty.
Boebert, known for her far-right views, has criticized the Inflation Reduction Act and the bipartisan infrastructure law. However, the latter has brought roughly $190 million toward street and water infrastructure improvements in Colorado.
Pueblo is part of Colorado’s sprawling 3rd Congressional District, where Boebert narrowly held onto her seat during the 2022 midterms. Recent embarrassing incidents and a difficult reelection campaign now await her as she faces a likely rematch against Democratic candidate Adam Frisch.
Biden has taken an increasingly confrontational stance toward Republicans, particularly criticizing their past practices related to labor and importation, and accusing Republicans of trying to cut Social Security and Medicare benefits for the elderly.
Originally planned for October 16, Biden’s Pueblo visit was postponed due to the Middle East conflict. His visit to Israel to show support for the country further delayed the trip.
