On Tuesday, Mike Pence submitted his paperwork to enter the 2024 race and unveiled a launch video on Wednesday. Despite being noted by the Hill, the video, which was nearly 3 minutes long, did not mention former President Trump directly or feature any images of Pence’s former boss. In the video, Pence places blame for the current state of the country on “President Biden and the radical left”, citing economic and immigration policies, as well as an “assault” on “timeless American values,” as per Politico.
Pence says, “We can turn this country around, but different times call for different leadership. Today our party and our country need a leader that will appeal, as Lincoln said, to the ‘better angels of our nature.'” According to Fox News, this line appears to be a “swipe” at Trump, who has criticized Pence for refusing to try and block the certification of the 2020 election results. Pence is looking to win over evangelical voters in Iowa, as noted by Politico, and he referred to this theme as well, “God is not done with America,” he says. “The best days for the greatest nation on Earth are yet to come.” Pence will hold a campaign rally in Iowa later Wednesday, which is also his 64th birthday, and will participate in a CNN town hall later in the evening.
